Under the following special circumstances, the accrued benefits of a scheme member may be classified as “unclaimed benefits”:
A member has reached the age of 65 but has not withdrawn his accrued benefits from the trustee and remains unreachable despite attempts by the trustee to locate him through different means; or
A member requests his trustee to withdraw the accrued benefits. The cheque sent to the member by the trustee, however, remains unpresented after six months from the issue date and the member remains unreachable despite attempts by the trustee to locate him through different means.
The MPFA maintains an Unclaimed Benefits Register for members of the public to check for free. Information available includes whether a scheme member has any unclaimed benefits and, if so, the name and contact number of the trustee with which the benefits are placed.
